Painted depiction of a red chair with a white background

Still. Here.

Oil on round canvas, 2025

Original, diameter 50 cm

Red bag on white chair. No body, no gesture. Only what remains, what is, or is not. The painting becomes a proxy for presence or lack thereof. For familiarity, for the quiet question of daring to be or not to be.

Both symbolic and deeply personal, the object depicted is my own handbag placed on my own chair, at home that I actually find very poetic in itself. Detached from the body that usually carries it, the bag shifts from utility to signifier: of autonomy, intimacy, loneliness, or confidence.
The unsettled, visible brushwork is very representative of my painting style. It dwells in an in-between space and remains one of my favourite pieces: very simple, yet quietly poetic.
